If you have an ultrasound appointment scheduled or are planning to schedule one:
As a courtesy to your doctor's office you may want to contact them before the appointment and request that they preview our website to learn about your request.
The preferred way to capture an image your baby's heartbeat is in a JPEG format taken directly from the ultrasound machine. So, in order to simplify this process, please take a blank CD to your appointment along with a printout of the "for the sonographer" section of this website. As explained in that section, the procedures that we require are simple and easy to obtain.
If for some reason your doctor's office is unable to grant your request for either a copy of the heartbeat on your CD or for them to download it directly to us at a later date, all sonogram machines produce a thermal printout of the heartbeat. Request a copy of that printout during your appointment and when you get home you drop it in the mail to us.
If you have already had your ultrasound and are not scheduled for another one during your pregnancy:
Doctors are required to store a patient's sonogram. Some doctors store the images on the machine's hard drive; some store them as thermal paper prints. You should be able to request a copy of the heartbeat image from them, in either CD or thermal paper printout form. It might be helpful to bring a blank CD with you and print out a copy of the "for the sonographer" section of our website to help explain the process. Once you get the image, you can simply mail it to and complete your order online.
If you are a family member or friend who are giving Baby Heart Art as a gift:
You have two choices. You may simply present the mother-to-be with our gift certificate and let her enjoy the experience of getting the heartbeat recorded, designed, and ordered. This may be the preferred method if your mother-to-be is early in her pregnancy and has not yet had a sonogram. (Most doctors do at least one sonogram and that is usually scheduled around twenty weeks.)
Or, if you would like to surprise her with the actual artwork, you may need to ask a family member (most likely the father-to-be) to request a copy of the CD or thermal printout of the baby's heartbeat. Again, this can be obtained during the sonogram if the family is present or later retrieved from the patient's file by a family member. Be advised, however, that some doctors will not release any images without the patient's consent.
- IMPORTANT NOTICE-
