Whether you are obtaining the m-mode or pulsed doppler image, it is an easy process.
We have found that the best images are obtained in the four-chamber view, scanning directly over the tricuspid or mitral valve. The image can be acquired in black and white, or in any of the colors offered by your machine's manufacturer. The most important thing is to try to keep the heart tracing symmetrical throughout the entire frame. (This may be best accomplished by having the patient hold her breath.)
